Keybridge Capital
Mariner used its balance sheet to seed an investment company, Mariner Wealth Management. A successful IPO of Mariner Bridge on the ASX (Code:KBC) was completed in November 2006. It has subsequently been renamed Keybridge Capital as an independent investment company that invests in structured finance transactions including leasing, infrastructure, property and fixed income.
Beyond International
Mariner holds 19.99% of the issued capital of television and film production company Beyond International (ASX:BYI) in 2007. Beyond International produces popular programs including Mythbusters and What’s Good For You. Mariner acquired the stake as a strategic investment in the media sector and is considering a range of strategic options for the investment.
Gryphon Minerals
In 2007, Mariner acquired a 5.3% stake in Gryphon Minerals, an ASX listed exploration company (Code:GRY). Gryphon’s flagship project is the Banfora Gold Project in Burkina Faso, an under-explored and highly prospective region of West Africa. Australian gold, nickel and uranium projects, most notably the Collurabbie and Mt Rankin nickel projects. MCAP acquired the GRY stake to seed the West African Gold Fund which is available to institutional and sophisticated investors.
Golden Phoenix Resources
In 2008, MCAP formulated the Mariner Investment Trust to acquire a 23% stake in the unlisted Golden Phoenix Resources on behalf of participating institutional and sophisticated investors. Golden Phoenix is a pre-IPO investment where the company’s flagship project is the Project X in Hunan Province, China, a significant gold reserve with multiple million ounce potential. The project has scope for a re-rating through TSX or AIM listing within 6 to 12 months, and potential for a fast track to IPO within approximately 12 months of the initial investment. |
