The property development team sources appropriate projects where there are opportunities to add value to either unimproved land or under-utilised assets, through re-zoning or future development.

Mariner Coastal Land Fund

The team skillfully manages the delivery of major development projects and is highly experienced in all the necessary planning issues at both state and local government level. They managed the process to obtain NSW State Planning Concept Approval for a 1.5 million sqm warehousing and distribution intermodal project in Goulburn, and secured control of the Up-side Wheat Yards and Sidings in the Goulburn Railyards, as well as concept approval for a 59,000 sqm mixed use residential, tourism and retail project on the Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort site in Yamba.

The Team

The property development team has wide ranging experience including managing the pre-constructinon and delivery process, securing debt and managing the delivery of both infrastructure works and buildings.

Mike Shaw – Managing Director, Mariner Land Limitedmike-shaw

Mike has over 25 years experience in the real estate, development and construction industry with contractual and overall management responsibility for multi-million dollar projects in Europe, Middle East, USA and the Far East. Projects in which he has been involved include Canary Wharf (London), EuroDisney (Paris), and the Petronas Towers (Kuala Lumpur).

He heads up Mariner Land Limited which was set up to secure investment opportunities in land, development and under utilised assets. He established the Mariner Coastal Land Fund in Yamba and is working on the re-zoning of a major land holding in Goulburn, NSW.

Prior to joining Mariner, as Head of Development for the James Fielding Group, he was responsible for a number of major projects such as:

  • Sydney Basin Airports (Bankstown, Hoxton Park and Camden), NSW
  • Holden Headquarters, Melbourne
  • Orion Town Centre, Springfield, Queensland
  • Education City, Springfield, Queensland

He has held positions as a Director of Bovis Asia Pacific, Bovis Australia and subsequently James Fielding Developments Pty Limited and James Fielding Property Services Pty Limited.

Mark Lamond
B App Sc
Mark  is an experienced Quantity Surveyor with an extensive background in finance, special-purpose major projects, establishing unique project delivery systems and project control systems. He has particular strengths in structuring projects to ensure maximum viability and predictable project outcomes. His involvement in major projects includes:

  • Australian Stock Exchange, Sydney
  • Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in both Adelaide and Melbourne; and
  • Woodside Petroleum Head Office in Perth
  • Macquarie University Research Park

During his 37 year career, Mark has also acted as an advisor on cost control, contract conditions and project delivery to the SGIC, State Bank of South Australia, News Corporation, State Government Departments in Victoria and South Australia, several local government bodies, as well as clients in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Richard Drummond
Masters of Commerce (Hon)
Richard has over 15 years of achievement in the property development industry, supported by strong financial skills developed over 10 years in the merchant banking industry. The breadth of his experience ranges from green field projects through to the repositioning of existing assets. The majority of property projects have been on the eastern seaboard of Australia and have involved hotel, residential, commercial office and mixed use developments up to $200 million.

Richard has provided advisory services to a number of significant property developers including Becton, Lewis Land, CRI and MBI. He has also provided specialist property advice to local, state and federal government agencies.

Trevor Lee
AAPI, MRICS, Masters of Property Development, B App Sc
Trevor has had extensive experience in construction, development management, feasibility studies, market demand studies and valuation both in Australia and overseas. Prior to joining Mariner, Trevor was employed with Berkeley Homes in the UK working on large scale development projects in central London. In previous years, Trevor has worked for St Hilliers as a Development Manager in Sydney and with LandMark White as a property valuer.

James Elliott
B Bus Property Valuation (University of Queensland)
James currently holds the position of Development Manager with Mariner. James’ experience encompasses construction, development management, feasibility studies, sales and acquisitions, procurement and project planning.

Prior to working at Mariner, James was a Development Manager at Investa Property Group and Austcorp working on large projects in Zetland, Blue Mountains, Western Sydney and the Central Coast. James also worked in commercial agencies across NSW and QLD.
